What Is Google Block Breaker?
Google Block Breaker is a playable brick-breaking game that appeared in Google Search in January 2025. Inspired by classic arcade games such as Breakout, it asks you to keep a ball moving with a paddle while clearing rows of colorful bricks. Google's version features its familiar blue, red, yellow, and green colors, multiple rounds, and collectible bonuses.
This article describes the game shown inside Google Search. Our own Block Breaker Arcade is a separate, independently developed game, not a copy of Google's game or an official Google product.

Google Block Breaker Controls
On desktop, move the paddle with the left and right arrow keys. On a phone or tablet, move the paddle using touch controls. Keep the ball from falling below the paddle, aim rebounds toward remaining bricks, and advance to another round after clearing a board.
If you are playing our independent arcade game instead, you can also use A and D to move and Space or Up to launch the ball. Controls can differ between the two games.
Power-Ups and Special Features
Google’s Search version includes more than ordinary bricks. Some blocks are harder to destroy, and others can release bonuses such as extra balls, a wider paddle, TNT effects, and blasters. The game begins with three lives, with opportunities to earn more as you play.
Power-ups can help clear a difficult section, but chasing a falling bonus is risky if it leaves the paddle too far from the ball. Prioritize staying alive over collecting every item.
Five Tips to Improve Your Score
- Watch the ball's trajectory. Predict the next landing point rather than following the ball's current position.
- Use the paddle edges. Off-center hits can create diagonal shots into hard-to-reach bricks.
- Clear a side channel. Getting the ball above the bricks can trigger a series of hits.
- Protect your remaining lives. Ignore a power-up if collecting it would cost you a ball.
- Stay calm as the board empties. Fewer bricks can mean longer, faster returns between useful hits.

Google Block Breaker, Breakout, and Arkanoid
Google's game follows a well-established arcade formula. Atari's Breakout debuted in 1976 with a paddle, a ball, and bricks to destroy. Arkanoid expanded the concept in 1986 with new obstacles and power-ups. Google's 2025 Search game makes the genre accessible directly from a search-results page, without a separate download.
